Work Request

When it comes to development collaboration and project tracking for Mobile App Environment (MAE), the VA uses a set of tools made by Atlassian. These tools are designed for collaboration between developers, managers, and sometimes customers. Atlassian Tools used in the MAE include:

  • JIRA: Project tracking and task management
  • Wiki/Confluence: Central Documentation hosting and collaboration
  • Stash: Interface for hosted GIT code repositories
  • FishEye/Crucible: Used for code reviews between developers

In addition to the Atlassian Tools, the MAE contains a Continuous Integration (CI) environment/build server utilizing Jenkins software. Jenkins allows developers to create, edit, and monitor their build jobs to stay on track of development.

The Request Process

To develop a Veteran or clinical provider mobile app, using VA resources, you must first register with VA by completing the forms that are specific to your request. The form request options are listed below:

  • User Registration
  • Have the VA build an app
  • Certify an app you have already built to carry the VA brand
  • Start building a VA-branded app for which you have funds and resources
  • Request a VA Mobile App Environment (MAE) for Development
  • Request server resources for your VA mobile app development project

The forms you submit with this process will automatically be forwarded to VA Web and Mobile Solutions (WMS) team for review. You will be contacted by a member of the WMS team to review your request, and will be given further instructions regarding your request.

Project Leads/Admins Responsibilities

An initial request generally results in the creation of a JIRA project to track tasks associated with the work, once approved by the governance board. Once the JIRA Project is created, the project lead will be contacted and will be responsible for the following:

  • Directing team members back to this page to individually submit user registration requests.
  • Submitting an additional request if additional resources are needed (Wiki/Confluence, Stash, FishEye, etc.) by completing the appropriate request below.

Project Leads/Admins have a number of tasks in which they can carry out. Each Atlassian tool has a project admin section with a different set of tools/capabilities. Please refer to Atlassian documentation for information on admin capabilities.

Project users also have a number of abilities. These too can be found in Atlassian Documentation.

Note: These forms are designed to be completed in one sitting, so please review them first, collect your responses, and then begin entering your information into the forms.

User Registration

Use this form to join an existing development project in the Mobile Applications Environment (MAE) that has been approved by the Mobile Applications Governance Board.

Please remember to add your name and contact information!

Have the VA Build an App

Use this form if you have an idea for an App that you would like the VA to develop. The VA Web and Mobile Solutions Team Reviews your request.

Start building a VA-branded app for which you have funds and resources

Use this form if you have a contract or funds and you have resources to build a mobile app using the VA's mobile App processes and policies.

Once approved, a project will be created in the JIRA database to track the progress of the project.

NOTE: If your app will require utilization of MAE development and test (app hosting) resources, your team will need a VA VPN account to have full access to the available resources.
